Job Detail:
Under the overall management of the IOM-Pakistan Regional Representative and the Head of Emergency and Stabilization Department and oversight responsibilities of the Emergency Officer, under direct supervision of the Programme Manager; the successful candidate will be responsible for instructing various aspects of the curriculum of the Security Awareness Training for IOM Pakistan and its partners. He/she will work in a cooperative spirit with other project security trainers, and in a professional manner to ensure that the planned training program is effectively implemented. He/she will ensure that the proposed and accepted teaching methodologies set out in the MOU are utilized during the training. He/she will maintain the highest standards of professional training decorum and will strive to ensure that training is carried out in an environment conducive to adult learning. In particular, he/she will:
1. Network and collaborate with all individuals partner agency representatives, directly or indirectly involved in the training program, in efforts to ensure its successful implementation.
2. Conduct Training in the various regions on the various dates as set out according to the training forecast timetable.
3. Ensure that all relevant security training materials and venues are properly prepared, maintained and accounted for, and that they follow accepted training standards identified by IOM’s Staff Development and Training Unit, UNDSS and specific agency security needs.
4. Follow as closely as possible where applicable the accepted security management system protocols and guidelines set out in various security directives, manuals and policies issued by UNDSS and relevant agency security policies
5. Regularly update the training materials in accordance to the regional security situation and changing threat and risk assessment.
6. Assist in the design, re-design and implementation of various security training strategies related to the progressive, ongoing development of the training program, specific to IOM and partner organization needs.
7. Familiarise his/her self with the United Nations Security in the Field handbook. Be familiar with the UN MOSS and MORSS requirements, as well as the UN SLS system and complete the Basic and Advanced Security in the Field CD-ROM prior to the commencement of employment.
8. Actively work with your colleagues, and all the oversight authorities, ensuring that appropriate training practices are followed and that any identified associated security training policies are adhered to.
9. Be prepared to carry out training progress briefings, submit required progress reports, individually or collaboratively with Team members and assist with frequent evaluations of the course content and the effectiveness of the program, upon/under the direction of the oversight authorities.
10. Carry out other assigned duties, in association with the training program.
Required Skills
A university degree or diplomas in security management, social sciences, international studies, law, teaching or alternatively a combination of relevant training and field experience are required. Five years field experience working in security management systems, law enforcement and or military disciplines or associated fields is a pre-requisite, preferably with international experience.
Additional experience in the United Nations missions, international peacekeeping, humanitarian emergency operations and strategic security planning in private industry or international organizations is highly desirable.
Experience working in central and/or south Asia strongly preferred.
Educational studies, adult training, instruction and experience in instructional teaching methods are required. The ability to effectively and comfortably disseminate an instructional teaching curriculum is required, along with a comprehensive understanding of the various teaching aids and methods.
A high level of computer literacy is required. An excellent command of both oral and written communications skills in the English language is a prerequisite.
The position requires one to project a confident, professional image and possess excellent inter-personal skills that would include the ability to remain composed and diplomatic when in a stressful situations and possess good negotiations skills.
The successful candidate must be dedicated to his/her assigned responsibilities, be creative in his/her thinking, possess a strong desire to succeed, be self-motivated, flexible and team oriented. Working with colleagues and trainees from various cultures and backgrounds in a co-operative, harmonious spirit is essential.
Languages
Thorough knowledge and command of English is required.
Knowledge of Urdu, Pashto, Baloch and other local languages are preferable.
