UNIT DESCRIPTION:
The Microbiology Section currently performs over 43 major clinical microbiology procedures and with a monthly workload average of 4500 tests. The section is organized into 5 subsections including Microbiology specimens-receiving area, Bacteriology, Parasitology, Mycobacteriology and Molecular Diagnostics and Mycology.
As part of a state-of-the-art Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department, the Microbiology section employs several automated processes. These include the two BACTEC 9240 Automated Blood Culture system, BACTEC MGIT 960 automated system for detection of Mycobacteria and the BD Probtec ET for Molecular detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA.
The Laboratory Technology Specialist I will be responsible for updating and introducing new technology to the microbiology section.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree (USA) or Completion of Medical Technology program (Canada), and
Current Technologist-level (e.g., MT, M) registration with ASCP or CSMLS
Minimum 5 years current, full-time experience in microbiology in a large hospital in North America.
